DESCRIPTION:How can we rethink and adapt the production of empirical knowle
dge in\ncontexts of violence and impunity\, by unfolding the multi-faceted
\nrelationship between archives and power? The circulation of people\,\nda
 ta\, forms of knowledge (investigative forensics\, cartography\, oral\nhis
 tory projects)\, and actions (people’s tribunals\, missing people\ndatabas
es\, universal jurisdiction) challenge the relations between\npower and kn
owledge when it comes to archives. Notably\, various\ntransnational forms
of activism have the purpose or effect of\nproducing scattered\, incomplet
e documentation that subvert or\nchallenge knowledge and narratives constr
ucted within nation-state\nborders and power politics. However\, engaging
in this\ncounter-hegemonic archival resistance comes at the risk of being
 \nreshaped by standardized legal\, epistemic\, moral grammars and norms.\n
The presentation explores the world of\, and the worlds narrated by\,\nthe
se counter-archives through the case of post-revolutionary Iran\,\nand the
“long” Iranian revolution (1979-1989).\n\nChowra Makaremi is a CNRS tenur
ed researcher in the Laboratoire\nd’Anthropologie Politique at the School
for Advanced Studies in the\nSocial Sciences (EHESS) in Paris. She leads t
he ERC research program\nOFF-SITE: Violence\, State formation and memory p
olitics: an off-site\nethnography of post-revolution Iran.\n\n_ IF YOU WOU
